8th APA Conference, Meetings and Workshops
“Evidence Based Advocacy : The Catalyst for Action”
Date 16 - 20 November 2006
Venue Pathumwan Princess Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand
The 8th Annual meeting and conference of the Asia Pacific Alliance: Advancing the International Conference on Population and Development (APA/ICPD) was again held in Bangkok Thailand, where the secretariat is now based. The conference was timed to coincide with the 3rd International Parliamentarians Conference on Implementation of the ICPD (IPCI), also being held in Bangkok 20 - 22 November. The APA conference was attended by NGO and ODA representatives of the seven Pacific rim donor countries that comprise current APA membership - Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Japan, Canada and the US. This year, guests from emerging donor countries China and India were also invited to attend, as well as representatives from UN agencies, private foundations, parliaments, regional NGOs and Thai government agencies. A copy of the Conference Program can be accessed by clicking here.
The conference was preceded by a workshop for members to increase knowledge and awareness of issues regarding reproductive health supplies in the region, and to present a report commissioned by APA as part of its work with Population Action International and the RH Supplies Coalition. APA will further this work during 2007 by becoming part of a proposed Global Alliance for RH Supplies.
Presentations and discussion from the conference informed the discussion at the member’s annual meeting on 18 November, and contributed to a full and busy advocacy plan for APA over the next 18 months.
