It's a sure bet that women won't be high on the agenda, or even listed on the program, when UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon convenes a climate change summit of world leaders on September 22. Women are also likely to be missing at the make-or-break emissions reduction conference in Copenhagen in December.
Contraception is almost five times cheaper than conventional green technologies as a means of combating climate change, according to research published on 9 September 9.
This publication synthesises the issues and outcomes from the Forum on the Gendered Dimensions of Disaster Risk management and Adaptation to Climate Change, held at the forum's interactive group discussions. It provides a starting point for further discussion and exchange on these important issues. The UNDP hopes donors and development practitioners across the region listen to the Pacific voices included in this publication and use it as a tool to guide the substance and direction of future programming in disaster risk management and adaptation to climate change.

A new study has determined that climate change could deepen poverty in developing countries. In the study, a team led by Purdue University researchers examined the potential economic influence of adverse climate events, such as heat waves, drought and heavy rains, on those in 16 developing countries.
The Breathing Earth is real-time simulation that displays the CO2 emissions of every country in the world, as well as their birth and death rates.

Earlier this year a Lancet Commission stated that "climate change is the biggest global health threat of the 21st century". Countries in the developing world least responsible for the growing emissions are likely to experience the heaviest impact of climate change, with women bearing the greatest toll. In tandem with other factors, rapid population growth in these regions increases the scale of vulnerability to the consequences of climate change, for example, food and water scarcity, environmental degradation, and human displacement.
