State of World Population 2004: The Cairo Consensus at 10: Population, Reproductive Health, and the Global Effort to End Poverty Report from UNFPA
The International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD or Cairo), convened under the auspices of the United Nations, took place in Cairo, Egypt, September 5-13, 1994. It brought together representatives from over 180 governments and 1,254 nongovernmental organizations.
2009 marks the 15th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and is a reminder the five years remaining to fulfill the commitments made in Cairo in 1994.
A series of reports from the Commission on Population and Development (42nd session, held from 30 March-3 April 2009) are available for download from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division website.
Investments of $64.7 billion are needed in 2010 for population programmes essential to reduce poverty, promote development and curtail maternal death, a media statement from UNFPA said on 6 April.

On the eve of the 20th anniversary of World Population Day, the World Bank and UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, warned that family planning and other reproductive health programmes vital to poor women had fallen off the development radar of many low-income and donor country governments and international aid agencies.
The Advocacy Flexi Fund (AFF) provides small grants to support civil society organizations to advocate for the sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people.

In 1994 in Cairo, at the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), industrialized and developing countries forged an inspiring and farsighted Plan of Action (PoA) that integrated a wide range of population, development and human rights issues into a blueprint for 20 years of action.
