The ABC of Bodily Autonomy for Youth with Disabilities (2023)

2023

The purpose of this document is twofold: first, to examine how ableism specifically impacts the agency of youth with disabilities in making decisions about their lives and bodies, and second, to provide information to youth with disabilities about their rights and the obligations of states towards them. The intention is for this document to empower young people with disabilities, equipping them with knowledge about their rights and enabling them to make informed decisions concerning their own lives and bodies.

The foundation of this document is rooted in the “My Body, My Voice” consultation, a collaborative effort co-created and facilitated by youth with disabilities themselves. Additionally, it draws upon the various spaces we have co-created with the Global Network of Youth with Disabilities. These spaces served as enabling environments for youth with disabilities to connect, engage in dialogue, and shape their own agendas and priorities.
