The European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual and Reproductive Rights (EPF) announces the launch of the SRHR Donor Funding Atlas 2023 at the European Parliament. The Atlas scores 30 donor countries on their development funding for SRHR based on three main criteria: political commitment, policies in force and funding. By tracking these three categories, this Atlas also gives a more holistic understanding of the political narrative of donor funding. It provides the most up-to-date and comparable data on donor countries' spending on SRHR programmes around the world through both multilateral and bilateral development cooperation.
This atlas provides a crucial tool for parliamentarians and their understanding of development funding for SRHR. It highlights the importance of accountability for the 10% SRHR goal (ICPD30 in 2024), helps MPs and MEPs understand where their countries stand on international commitments, highlights the need to address women’s health and empowerment holistically, and the urgency of setting the tone for SRHR funding in order to inspire further development efforts.
The best-performing country, according to the SRHR Donor Funding Atlas, is Germany, with its funding commitments for 2023 in terms of ODA exceeding the target, a policy and legislative framework that supports a feminist agenda, and strong political commitments to UN-led initiatives and international pledges.
